Taj Nature Trail
A beautiful natural forest is located just minutes away from the East Gate of the Taj Mahal. Spread over 70 acres, the park has over 9 km of walking trails, and offers vistas of the Taj Mahal from many vantage points. It is beautiful, green, and serene, and houses over 46 varieties of flowers and local birds, butterflies, hares, parakeets, hoopoes, and kingfishers.
Shilpgram
An open-air space, built like a village market, Shilgram has stalls and kiosks selling handicrafts, ethnic clothes, jewelry, footwear, and souvenirs. Open air café and eateries allow visitors to relax and soak in the colorful and quaint atmosphere.
Mankameshwar Temple
This ancient Shiva temple is located north of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. It is surrounded by markets.
Guru Ka Taal
The Gurudwara at Guru Ka Taal, originally a water reservoir, is a holy place of worship for Sikhs and said to have been visited by four of the ten Gurus. It attracts tourists and pilgrims.
Yamuna Boat Ride
Tourists could previously see the Taj from a sunrise or sunset boat ride along the Yamuna in a traditional Indian style boat. The river winds along many of the monuments, mausoleums, and forts of the city. Boat rides are no longer allowed due to security reasons.
Bear and Elephant Rescue Center
This is popular amid animal lovers, who can see and learn about rescued bears and elephants and interact with the animal handlers.
Itimad-ud-Daulah
Often called “Baby Taj”, this white marble mausoleum on the left bank of river Yamuna, features stone carvings, jaali work, and is encrusted with semi-precious stones like cornelian, jasper, lapis lazuli, and topaz. It is set in a large garden, crisscrossed by water canals and walking paths. It was built by Nur Jahan as the tomb of her father, Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the Chief Minister in the court of Jahangir.
Akbar’s Tomb, Sikandra
The tomb of Akbar is a beautifully carved, red sandstone building, set in a large garden.
Jama Masjid
This large mosque was built by Jahanara Begum, the daughter of Shah Jahan.
Ram Bagh
A beautiful garden built by Babur, filled with pavilions, on the banks of the Yamuna. It remains cool and soothing even in the middle of summer.
Mehtab Bagh
This “moonlight garden” is located on the bank of the Yamuna, on the opposite side of Taj Mahal.
